Subject: Sign-on Letter for Authors & Survey on the Digital Divide

Hello folks,

Two things for your consideration today:

*Authors for Libraries Sign-on Letter*
Fight for the Future, a US-based digital rights organization, (who worked
on values-aligned efforts like BanFacialRecognition.com, the SOPA Internet
Blackout, and the fight for Net Neutrality) is organizing a sign on letter
from authors of all stripes, including academic and self-published, who
support public libraries and object to the onslaught they’re facing
currently in the US from the Big 5 & trade groups in terms of reducing
their rights to own and preserve books. Read more and, if you can, sign the
letter (if you're an author) or privately invite the authors in your
circles to sign on here
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1x0AR3sFJfJxZVRDAQ2l9d-_QrLARcaKgoEJMl0eMG84/>
.

I'm sure many in our community have been following the case against the
Internet Archive. While the focus may appear US-centric, the potential for
global ramifications and knock-on effects is huge.

*Digital Divide Survey*
Connect Humanity is running a survey that is open until September 14th.
Available in 26 different languages, this survey aims to capture civil
society's digital needs and gain a better understanding of the digital
divide. Results will be used to shape philanthropy and policy to bring more
resources to communities around this critical issue.

Here is the link to the survey: www.iinternet.org and the media kits.
<http://iinternet.org/mediakits/> If anyone has interest and about 15-20
minutes to spare, it's an interesting survey *and *the hope is that the
outcomes of it will help steer policy and funding promoting greater access
to connectivity, which is the underpinning for so much of our work.

Cheers,
Anna
